Lido Road Trip
Lido Road Trip
Swimming outdoors makes you feel like you are on a summer holiday!! Pack the car, make sure you have sandwiches and lots of swim costumes.
My goal was to swim 1km in each lido but you can do whatever floats your boat.
Guildford Lido
The fabulous 50m heated pool was opened in 1933 and is set on the beautiful three acres of landscaped gardens. The slides have been newly refurbished with the anaconda slide being just perfect to have a laugh.
· Parking was free.
· You can bring your own picnic.
· The lido is open in winter and from Friday to Sunday with the pool being heated to 12 degrees from September to April.
· There is a small kiosk which offers teas and coffees.
Arundel Lido
The 25m pool is in a super location with the picturesque Arundel castle as the backdrop. The pool is heated to 28 degrees and is open from May to September only. The sun lounges on the grass area around the lido were nice.
· Parking can be paid using RingGo.
· Do Check the timetable as the pool closes for maintenance during certain times.
· The town of Arundel is absolutely beautiful, so you could always explore the area before moving on.
Petworth
Petworth is a perfectly preserved market town nestled in the heart of the South Downs National Park. Steeped in history, Petworth has been voted Best Antiques Town and has links to the famous artist JMW Turner, a frequent visitor to Petworth House (National Trust).
We drove through Petworth and it really was a fabulous little town. Lovely pubs and tea gardens along the way. We didn’t stop but I think you won’t be disappointed.

Sea Lanes Brighton
The outstanding 50m lido right on the Brighton seafront was opened June 2023. I love that you can see the sea while swimming. The lido was well managed with strict lane etiquette, which I liked. You will need to swim with a swim cap. You can still have a leisurely swim but will have to follow the lane rules.
The pool is only heated to 19 degrees which caught me off guard as you know how drippy I am but once swimming it was lovely.
Swim Trek have their head offices on site and the Bison pub was great. Partners can have a drink while you are swimming.

RockWater
I love RockWater which is a restaurant, bar that has fabulous interior and it’s right on the Hove beach front. You can have a swim in the sea and afterwards, then enjoy the sunrise from the terrace overlooking the sea. A perfect way to end the day.
Parking on the road, paying using RingGo
Pells Lido
The oldest fresh water outdoor pool in the UK. The original structure of the pool was built in 1860. The lido length is 45m.
The £3 entry was a nice surprise as well as the warm outdoor showers.
Parking was a bit of a hassle but there are parking lots in the area if not successful in finding roadside parking.
Parking paid for using PaybyPhone
The Triangle – Burgess Hill
I never got to swim here as the lido was fully booked. Not sure I would make a special trip to visit unless you were with young children. The leisure Centre was full of children.
Grand Hotel Brighton
I loved the hotel! It felt so English which was wonderful. The rooms were great and well the breakfast was outstanding. Do keep a check on the hotel price as it fluctuates a lot. We stayed for a very good price.
Having breakfast overlooking the sea was a real treat. The service and staff were very professional and efficient. The location was good to explore Brighton.
No parking at the hotel. We had to pay £31.50 for overnight parking.
Thanks for sharing your lido adventure. Looks like great fun.
